York bowlers to star at National Championships

YORK bowlers will be battling it out with the best in the country at the National Championships at Leamington Spa this weekend.
Minster city bowlers have qualified from six of the 12 women’s competitions held in the Yorkshire region.
Dunnington ’s Margaret Morgan, Sue Taylor, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone will compete in the National Fours Championship, while club-mates Barbara Dawson and Kath Pepper have qualified for the National Pairs Championship.
Dunnington are a club in form, as they head the city’s Tuesday Night League and have also reached the semi-finals of three inter-club county competitions, the Janet Harrow, Anne Wilkinson and the Top Ten.
Joining Dunnington at Leamington Spa are Shipton trio Judy Abel, Barbara Sprigg and Sandra Grantham, who will contest the National Triples Championship.
That threesome will be joined by Hayley MacDonald in the fours event.
Railway Institute’s Sue Kirkpatrick and Helen Walker will compete in the Over-55s National Pairs, while North Duffield’s Janet Clark is in the Over-55s National Singles.
