Bowls: Union ranks for challenge duel

THE York Club and Institute Union Bowls League will play their annual challenge match against a York Amateur Bowls Association representative side at York Railway Institute’s green in Ashton Lane, on Saturday, May 5, at 2pm.

The C&IU team is (skips first) – rink 1: K Robinson, K Butler, A Phillips, G Whattam; rink 2: P Watson, P Parkin, W Bates, J Kelly; rink 3: K Nelson, B Melody, J Dalby, T Scott; rink 4: G Bunce, B Chapman, S Cain, J Dobbin; rink 5: K Potter, R Howland, J Birks, B Blackburn; president’s rink 6: T Wheatley, A Dunbar, M Dewhirst, P Smith. At the halfway stage of the game, the two rinks with the worst score will be replaced by the following two rinks: rink 7: J Cooper, H Marshall, A Morrell, D Cade; rink 8: D Preece, D Sanderson, K Mercer, M Rennison. All players, including reserves, to meet at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, Scarcroft Green Bowling Association will hold their annual open evening in Scarcroft Road on Monday, May 7, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Equipment will be provided, but flat soled shoes must be worn on the greens.
