York Indoor Bowls Club’s hopes of progressing to the Yetton Trophy semi-final disappeared after they were trounced by last season’s beaten finalists Lincoln.
The game started well for York who led 25-10 after only five ends. But by the tenth Lincoln had changed the complexion of the tie to 45-36 in their favour.
By the 15th, the game was all but over as Lincoln expanded their lead to 75-45 before winning 97-61.
At home, both rinks did well with Linda Harrison’s getting off to a good start leading 12-0 after only five ends en route to a 21-14 success.
Carol Instone’s team led 13-2 after eight ends. Though losing six on the trot to trail 15-13, they bounced back well to win 21-17.
But away it was a flop as both teams lost heavily.
Melanie Brookes went 7-4 up after six ends, but lost 36-9, while Helen Walker’s team, leading 2-1 after two, crashed 30-10.
Meanwhile, York gave themselves an uphill task to qualify for the end of season Yorkshire Over-55s League Challenge Cup when they lost heavily to third-placed North Cave White 87-59 to forego all 18 points.
The away leg, which was played first, saw Phil Parsons’ team winning the last two ends, to only go down 22-18. Geoff Walker’s rink trailed 13-11 after 12 before falling 24-15.
Both home sides struggled to make up the arrears.
Graham Brooke’s dipped from 16-13 ahead with six to play to perish 23-16, while Graham Instone’s rink lost 18-10.
York now need to beat Scarborough in their last game next month to have any chance of a top-three finish to qualify for the end of season showdown at New Earswick.
York ‘B’ bid to extend their unbeaten run to four games against Leeds in the O55s League second division tomorrow at noon.
York will also seek a return to winning ways to keep alive their Yorkshire Ladies League title hopes against Scarborough on Saturday, while New Earswick meet Selby in the push for division two promotion.
Title-hunting York men play lowly Thornaby in the Yorkshire League first division, where New Earswick need maximum points against Huddersfield to keep in with a chance of staying up.
Second-placed York take on fifth-placed New Earswick in the Hebden Trophy.
All the above games start at noon.
