Dot Kennelly and Linda Harrison got off to a flier in their National Over-60s pairs area final against New Earswick’s Margaret Moss and Pat Walker.
They led 6-0 after only three ends but the New Earswick duo soon drew level with a single, then a five, and the game looked to be going the way of the expected close match.
But it wasn’t to be as the home team scored 15 unanswered shots over the following nine ends, which included two tied, to lead 21-6.
A single to Moss and Walker was mere consolation as Kennelly and Harrison ended the match early after scoring a single, then a five, to win 27-7.
Kennelly and Harrison narrowly missed out on a double when they played Alexia Nairn and Liz Metcalfe from Ryedale in the pairs area final at New Earswick IBC.
The game was finely poised with the Ryedale ladies having a 15-14 advantage with two ends to play before a three, then a single, sealed them a place in the national finals.
Dudley Williams and Graham Brooke opened soundly in their area O60s pairs final against Dave Spilsbury’s Harrogate team, winning seven of the first eight ends to lead 12-2.
From then they had control of the game only dropping five more singles before finishing 20-7 winners.
Thanet Road stages another National area final this Sunday, starting at 12.30pm.
The duel is the Men’s Over-60s singles showdown which will be between Harrogate’s Spilsbury and Phil Hargreaves from the Hornsea club.
