BOTH local bowls club's representative seasons start this weekend with York Indoor Bowls Club ladies playing tomorrow in the Mason Trophy against Hornsea, with one rink at home and one away, both starting at 12.30pm.

The first derby takes place on Saturday when last season’s runners up York take on New Earswick IBC in the North Eastern Ladies League. Both games start at noon.

New Earswick take on Redcar, home and away, in the Yorkshire Over-55s League first division a week today starting at 12.30pm.

In the second division, York 'B' start their campaign when their away team travel to Scarborough. The return home leg will be played next Friday at noon.

York & District Indoor Bowls Club are offering free coaching to anyone interested in taking up the game.

• North Duffield Bowling Club member David Newsome won the under-25s competition at Selby & District Bowling Association's annual finals day played at Drax Bowling Club. In the final, he defeated club colleague James Clark.
