SCARCROFT'S Dave Cade kicked off the York Amateur Bowling Club knockout finals week with victory over Peter Watson in the Lord Mayor's Singles.

Cade, who beat David Harrison 15-8 in the last four, won a thrilling first to 21 final 21-20 after 33 ends at West Park.

Watson had beaten John Toes 15-14 in the other semi-final, while both of last year's finalists, winner Terry Wheatley and runner-up Bill Carter, exited in round one.

The Shipton rink of Ken Lippett, Les Blackburn, Kevin Fort and skip Brian Gray beat Bootham’s Denis Dawson, Jim Hackett, Pete Henderson and skip Mick Head 23-12 in the final of the Coronation Cup.

In the major final, the Maddison Cup, Dunnington 'B's Phil Raines, Dave Booth, Jim Robertson and skip Ralf Tiplady overcame the Dringhouses 'A' four of G Tuxford, George Elliott, Geoff Symonds and skip Mal Harrison 20-5.
