ENTRIES are now being taken for York's annual Super 7 bowls competition.

Teams will be drawn into groups and play three or four round robin matches to determine qualifiers for the knockout stages, which will include four or eight teams depending on the number of entries.

The group matches are expected to start in the week of Monday, August 12, with the competition culminating in a Grand Final early in September.

The competition is open to members of recognised clubs playing in local leagues, with teams consisting of seven bowlers playing in two pairs and a triple.

The deadline for entries is Monday, August 4, with entry costing £20 per team.

* Wigginton 'A' reached the final of the Ryedale Veterans' Sundella Cup after narrowly defeating hosts Pickering 64-61, with winning rinks from skips Tony Baker (19-15) and Bill Tomlinson (18-10).

In the Ryedale Veterans' League, Wigginton 'A' lost 50-74 at Slingsby, but came away with a respectable four points from the winning rinks of skips Michael Wadsworth (15-13) and Dave Imeson (12-11).

The 'B' team whitewashed visitors Welham 81-49 taking the maximum ten points from the winning rinks of skips Jane Stockton (20-11), Bob Barrett (22-13), Gary Stockton (18-13) and David Moorhouse (21-12).

A close fought 58-54 defeat in the Huby Triples League against Terrington produced five points each from the rinks of skips Jane Stockton (13-12), Tony Baker (18-11) and a drawn rink from Colin Ellis (14-14).

That was followed by a 76-48 win over Hutton-le-Hole, taking eight points from three winning rinks of skips Ellis (36-3), Graham Carver (14-10) and Jane Stockton (17-16).
