HOLGATE had a mixed week in division one of the York Amateur Bowling Association League.

After a convincing 8-0 home win over Haxby Road, they suffered a surprise 7-1 defeat at Dunnington - ending their unbeaten record.

Chasing Holgate WMC failed to capitalise when they also followed a good 8-0 win at Hull Road Park with a disappointing 6-2 home defeat to RI Amateurs.

That rounded off a successful week for RI Amateurs, who are starting to climb the table having also won 7-1 at Rowntree.

Champions Selby lost 6-2 at Dringhouses, where the aggregate all hinged on a dramatic last wood from home skip Ray Calpin. They then beat Hull Road Park 7-1 at home.

Haxby Road completed a mixed week with a 7-1 win at Dringhouses.

In division two, the programme was badly affected by the weather, but there were good wins for Shipton 7.5-0.5 at home to Burnholme, Wigginton 7-1 at home to Harrogate and Bootham 6-2 at Clifton.

West Park completed a bad week for Burnholme by beating them 8-0, while Shipton thrashed RI Corinthians 8-0, meaning they leap-frog their opponents into second place.

In a tight division three just eight points separates leaders Osbaldwick from seventh-placed Retreat.

Osbaldwick triumphed 7-1 at home to Stamford Bridge before a 6.5-1.5 loss away to Retreat.

Players are needed to represent the YABA in a mixed match against Bishops Cleeve at Railway Institute on Saturday, July 5, 2pm start. Contact Steve Atkinson at Railway Institute if interested.
