New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club ensured their survival in the Yorkshire Over-55s League first division after they easily beat relegated Scarborough 95-66.

They won all four rinks.

At home, Ralph Tiplady`s team got off to a good start as they led 11-1 after five ends and were never threatened as they won comfortably 32-10.

Colin Ellis' side were 9-3 down after eight ends before they turned the tie around by winning nine successive ends to lead 15-9. A dropped four on the last end did not stop them from posting a 17-14 win.

Away, Mick Head’s team did well to win the last four ends to counter from an 18-17 deficit to win 22-18.

Barry Harrison’s side looked to have the game won when they led 21-17 with three ends to play. They were hit by the concession of a six but then bounced back well with a single before sealing the game with a two to finish 24-23 victors.

New Earswick`s last game of the season is against city rivals York 'A' with the game being played at both Huntington Road and Thanet Road today at 12.30p.

The chances of York 'A' winning the title disappeared when Featherstone 'A' beat North Cave White picking up the maximum 18 points at stake to leave York 'A' as runners up.

Featherstone 'A', York 'A', Redcar and Hornsea will contest the Yorkshire O55s Challenge Cup which has been put back to Thursday, April 3 following Featherstone’s involvement in the EIBA O60s double rinks semi-final at Northampton on March 27.
