YORK Indoor Bowls Club came through a tough Yetton Trophy quarter-final with flying colours, beating a strong South Forest team 87-75.

The Thanet Road club will now play City of Ely – who beat Riverain 68-67 – in the semi-finals at Darlington IBC on Easter Sunday, April 20.

At home, Sue Allen’s side continued their excellent run with another outstanding performance.

Leading from start to finish, they scored a six on the 15th end to lead 23-8 and to relieve any pressure on the aggregate score, which stood at 67-51 at that stage.

They eventually ran out 27-12 winners.

Carol Instone’s team showed true spirit in not caving in.

Trailing 18-8 after 11 ends, they turned the game round by winning all but two of the remaining ends and sealed a great comeback with a two then a five on the last couple of ends to win 27-20.

Away, both sides did well with Linda Harrison’s rink leading 15-7 after 13 ends and Zoe Eagles’s leading 10-6 after ten ends.

Harrison lost five of the last six ends to go down 22-17 and Eagles kept her composure as her team went from 10-6 ahead to 15-10 down, but then shared the remaining ends to only lose 21-16.

York will look to progress to other semi-finals next week as their Mason Trophy team play Barwell at Lincoln IBC on Tuesday, with a 12.30pm start, and their Vivienne Trophy team play Huntingdon next Thursday with two rinks at home and two away, starting at 1pm.

Meanwhile, Linda Harrison’s triples team became the first York side to qualify for this year’s national finals.

They beat Great Aycliffe 19-12 after being 8-1 down with only five ends gone. They turned the game round by winning six out of the next eight ends to lead 14-10.

The York trio now play ex-world champion and ex-York player Rebecca Field’s Norfolk team at Melton & District IBC on April 9.
