HOPES of York IBC capturing the North East Ladies League suffered a jolt after they lost to current leaders Doncaster 88-74.
York managed to win only one rink, that of Maureen Robinson.
At home, they made the most of a good start, which saw them leading 11-3 after only five ends, then 15-7 after ten, before eventually securing a 29-15 victory.
Barbara Dawson’s side were level at 9-9. But then they ceded seven shots over the next four ends. That run proved decisive in the loss of their game by 19-15.
Away, both teams were made to pay for dropping shots between the tenth and 15th ends.
The rink headed by Irene Paylor went from 12-10 to 20-11 and Pat Potter’s from 13-7 to 22-13.
Paylor’s rink finally succumbed to a 29-12 loss, while the margin of defeat for that of Potter was 25-18.
York are now seven points adrift of Doncaster but have a game in hand.
New Earswick’s ladies lost all four rinks to crash 95-63 to a strong Hornsea side which included a flurry of first-team players.
