York graduate Tom Ransley on track for Olympics

UNIVERSITY of York graduate Tom Ransley advanced even nearer this summer’s Olympic Games when he was named in the Great Britain eight crew for the forthcoming World Cup series.

Having helped the crew to silver medals at the last two World Championships, the 26-year-old Ransley was yesterday named in the eights as part of the GB team to compete in the first world cup event in Belgrade, Serbia, from May 4 to 6.

Ransley stressed the importance of the next few months in the run-up to London, saying: “We really want to hit the international season running and lay down a marker for the Olympics."

The Olympic regatta will be held from July 28 to August 4.

Britain have changed ten of the 14 Olympic class crews from last year’s world championships.
