CITY of York Athletics Club shot put ace Scott Lincoln is celebrating his first UK Indoor Athletics Championships crown.
The 18-year-old thrower won the under-20s shot with a 16.81-metre effort in the last round of the competition at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
The winning put was just short of Lincoln’s personal best of 16.90 metres, while the youngster also had a throw of more than 17 metres which was fouled.
Coach Paul Wilson said: “Scott wasn’t happy as he had a very big foul, but he knows he will throw further soon.”
Lincoln, who won a recent four nations competition representing England against Scotland, Ireland and Wales in Cardiff, is ranked number one at his age group in the UK.
Next on his agenda is winning a place in the Great Britain team for the World Junior Championships in Barcelona in July.
Lincoln needs to achieve the qualifying mark of 19 metres before the end of June.
Meanwhile, City of York’s Ben Wharton competed in the under-17 men’s shot put at the UK Indoor Championships and finished eighth after a new personal best of 11.79 metres.
