Jane Shelmadine leads fine start for York Knavesmire Harriers

York Knavesmire Harriers have begun 2012 in impressive fashion.

Jane Shelmadine took third lady 45 in the Liversedge half marathon, clocking 102 minutes. Richard Walker timed 104 mins and Viviane Fraser 127.

Pete Downs was third in the men’s 45 category at Ripon’s ‘10k muddy boots’ event in a creditable 42 minutes 59 seconds on a difficult course.

In the Meltham 10k, Chris Roberts was the first Mire runner home in 37-43. John Bullock was third in the men’s 45 class in 44-07, Mike McGrath was second in his age group 60 with a 46-41 and Dick Hunter was second in men’s 65 in 53-34. The first woman home for the club was Sarah Douglas in 45-38.

In the Northern Cross Country Championships at Pontefract, the club came home in 29th place.

Richard Lowson was first for the Mire in 96th place, Giles Hawking was 229th, Simon Collins 318th, Pete Downes 359th, Barry Atkinson 412nd and Jim Mayo 424th. Other counters were Andy Neale in 593rd and Ian Bithell in 667th.
