Record turnout for Old Monks cross country race

Five Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers were among the record turnout of 237 entrants for the Old Monks Race at Hart, near Hartlepool, where Cameron Choules did well to finish 22nd in 35 minutes and 47 seconds.

Rob Burn was 83rd in 41:55 with Alan Harman 143rd in 47:14, Christine Burn 213th in 56:08 and Ian Codling 215th in 57:10.

Hester Cox led club runners home, finishing 138th in 44:42 in the annual Captain Cook’s Fell Race, race seven in the winter series, which attracted a record 290-strong field.

Graham Robinson was 209th in 50:07, Alan Harman 233rd in 52:10, Fran Jeffery 241st in 53:20 and Carol Morrison 262nd in 56:34.

Noel Clough rounded off an excellent season by competing in the ultra competitive V40s National Cyclo Cross Championships in Chantry Park, Ipswich.

He bagged a superb third place for a bronze medal, but even better was that when all the points were totalled he was crowned the overall Yorkshire champion.

The 2012 club championship gets underway next weekend with the cross country race at Acklam Grange School, in Middlesbrough. Runners to meet in Thirsk market-place at noon.
