East Yorkshire motorcycle racer Dan Harrison hopes to repay the faith placed in him by JHS Racing owner James Hollands by winning the 2014 British Supertwin title, writes Toby Latham.

Harrison, who had his dream of being a world champion dashed in 2006, returned to the sport in 2011 after a self-imposed four-and-a-half year exile.

In 2012, Harrison was a consistent performer in the national Thundersport GB series in the Superstock 600 class, claiming frequent top ten finishes and ending the season with a win to his name.

Due to problems with sponsorship, the 2013 season did not run so smoothly, with Harrison being unable to complete a full season racing which would have seen him challenge for the Supertwin Championship with JHS Racing.

But, despite this setback, Hollands entered Harrison into the Minitwin Championship for the Snetterton round at Thundersport GB in April and was repaid in full as Harrison completed a clean sweep of victories from the four races, setting a new lap record.

Now Harrison, of Driffield, is determined to make the most of the lifeline thrown to him by JHS Racing and at long last fulfil his potential.

He said: “Second chances don’t come around often, but when they do, you have to take them with both hands and work hard to achieve the results.

“In 2006, after three years of gaining experience and picking up championships working towards my ultimate goal of being a world champion, the opportunity to become a successful motorcycle racer was taken away from me.

“At that time, any thought of racing a bike again became a fantasy.

“I now intend to repay James, my sponsors, family and friends for sticking by me through winning the 2014 British Supertwin Championship.”
