A PLEA for feedback has been issued by officials after the cancellation of several York & District Amalgamation of Anglers contests due to low entry levels.
The amalgamation are keen to hear from anglers with suggestions for ways to increase numbers, as matches with fewer than 20 entrants are not financially viable.
A spokesman said: “A number of matches have had to be cancelled this year due to the low entry.
“It may be that we are not providing the right atmosphere. If you have any suggestions for improvements in attendances, please let us know so that we may consider and act upon them.”
The problem surfaced in June when only five anglers turned up to a match at Laybourne Lakes.
Amalgamation officials can be contacted by emailing angling.ydaa@fsmail.net or ydaa.angling@yahoo.co.uk Alternatively, opinions can be voiced at the annual general meeting, which has been moved back seven days to Wednesday, November 21, at St Clement’s WMC, at 8pm.
Meanwhile, Pete Webster won the latest Shepherd Angling Club match on the Aire and Calder canal at Rawcliffe Bridge.
Webster came out on top with an excellent catch of roach and perch to 6oz weighing a total of 10lb 14oz.
He fished squat over groundbait mixed with squats and pinkies, and caught from start to finish.
Second place went to Alan Moult with a catch of 6lb 2oz, again roach and perch, caught on maggot and pinkies fished over groundbait.
Brian Stevenson finished third with 5lb 2oz.
Mick Wood finished top of the pile in Clifton Hotel (York) Angling Club’s season-long competition.
Wood won the aggregate points contest with 15 points, ahead of Bob Hutchinson with 26.
He also topped the aggregate weights on 204lb 14oz, with Hutchinson again runner-up on 133lb 11oz.
The club’s latest match on Marley Pool at Laybourne Lakes was won by C Plant with a haul of 33lb 8oz.
R Dykes was second with 27lb 4oz and Wood took third on 25lb 8oz.
