A JUNIOR angling competition run as part of York’s Festival Of The Rivers will be held on the Ouse tomorrow.

The event, which is sponsored by City of York Council and run by the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers, was due to take place in July but was cancelled due to the embankment being flooded.

This followed the cancellation of an earlier event the previous month.

Organisers are hoping it will be third time lucky tomorrow on the New Walk section of the River Ouse.

The draw will take place at 9.30am, with fishing from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

Trophies will be awarded for the top weights in three categories – under-12s, 12 to 16-year-olds and 16 to 18-year-olds – with prizes for the winners and runners-up.

Entry cost 50p and can be paid on the morning at the draw.

Further information is available by phoning Terry Pinder on 01904 626129, Mike Longhurst on 01904 430815 or by emailing treasurer@ydaa.org.uk

Meanwhile, the Amalgamation’s WJC Noakes Trophy will be staged on Sunday on the Donkey Woods, Fulford and Palace Ings stretches of the Ouse.
