Otter cools angling competition

Tang Hall angler K Harris took the honours in the fifth round of the Acomb Tackle-sponsored York Winter League.

But rival K Lightfoot, from Acomb Tackle, might well have challenged for first but for being pestered by an otter near the peg he was drawn at just below the road bridge on the Fulford bank.

As it was, Harris’ 8lb haul of two bream and one skimmer – caught using ground-bait feeder and worm on the hook from the bridge field – topped a 48-strong field of anglers fishing in the Ouse below York.

Second-placed Lightfoot totalled 6lb 12oz comprising three skimmers, roach and perch. The pesky otter also annoyed other anglers on the Donkey Woods side too, making bites hard to come by.

Third place went to Rich Darling (Angler’s World Hols) with 6-11 of roach and perch fishing the pole. He was drawn on the Palace bend.

Also on the Palace bend, Leeds Angling Centre’s Ricky Gaunt was fourth with 5-11 of roach and perch fishing the pole.

Team points (after five rounds): 1 Leeds Angling Centre 7 points, 2 Anglers World 8 points, 3 Tang Hall 21 points.

The last match is on March 11.
