YORK’S Tony Stephenson was the clear winner of the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers’ Christmas Cheer contest on the River Ouse.
Stephenson caught mainly bream from peg 36 as he amassed a haul of 32lbs, beating Selby’s Wayne Shillitto, who totalled 15lbs 6oz from peg 44.
Kirkbymoorside’s Mike Potter was third with 10lbs 4oz, while Acomb Tackle’s Rob Morris took 8lbs 5oz in fourth and York angler Al Whitehead 8lbs 4oz for fifth.
Leeds’ Jim Jordan filled sixth spot on 6lbs and Barlby Village Stores ace Phil Austin caught 5lbs 11oz to finish seventh in the 70-strong field.
The amalgamation host their Animals Hospitals Cup on the Ouse below York on Sunday. The draw is at St Clement’s WMC at 8.30am.
