ANGLER Roger Holmes has re-written the record books for the second time in a week.

After a new three-hour record at Carpvale last week and another best set at Langwith, Holmes, the new record holder on Emma's Lake, repeated the feat on Kevin's Lake.

Drawn on peg ten, he worked the fish into a frenzy with pellets fished to the island and, in an amazing non-stop three-hours of bagging, hauled out 129lb 14oz to set a new record for the Heslington complex.

Another centurion was Dean Smith (Garbolino Elton), who was on peg six on the same lake where he bagged up to the tune of 122lb 4oz.

Smith almost wrote his place in angling history last week when he came second in the Kamasan British Open.

After winning the Matchman of the Year title three seasons ago and topping the finale for all anglers with 20 points or more in a season, he fell just short this time with a 93lb net.

Yorkshire anglers dominated the frame with Leeds-based Andy Middleton, who scored all his points at Sessay complex the Oaks, taking the top prize and a cheque for £1,000. Third went to another Yorkshire carp-bagger, Steve Rothery.

The feature match this weekend sees the York Amalgamation of Anglers host the Late Summer match at Laybourne Lakes on Sunday.

Some massive nets of carp have been taken from around the area this week as the heatwave has fuelled the fishes' hunger.

The best catches have, however, come at either end of the long, hot days and it will be interesting to see how they react during standard match hours.

Sea Horse Angling Club have been in action recently and enjoyed good sport at both Park View and Browns Lake at the Laybourne complex.

N Beckwith led the way at the former with a 22lb 8oz net ahead of D Fraton on 6lb 9oz and A Wallis with 4lb 4oz.

Things were a little harder at Laybourne where Keith Jenings triumphed with 9lb 8oz to beat off the challenges of Harold Sturd, who had a level 6lb, and Dave Ezard, who netted 5lb 4oz.

I would be grateful if club secretaries can provide with more detail of the fish caught and the methods used when they submit results.

I have been asked to point out that contrary to information contained in a recent Amalgamation newsletter the use of keepnets for pleasure anglers is not permitted at Laybourne Lakes.
