THE final weekend of the coarse fishing season for running water saw the River Ouse in its best condition of the winter.
With good water levels and rising temperatures fish fed with a vengeance and excellent sport was enjoyed upstream of York.
At Hunters Lodge, Bob Foster took the worm and feeder option in an impromptu midweek open on Wednesday and he put 13lb 6oz of stripeys to more than 3lb on the scales.
Dave Armitage took the honours with a two-point margin in the Riverside Financial Services League to win £620.
Glen Lawrence was the day’s top man, taking 10lb 13oz of mainly roach to 10oz on caster at 12 metres at peg 295 at Linton.
Andy Jaques won by a landslide in the 53-peg Leeds Charity Open between Hunters Lodge and Linton.
At peg 190 on the Willowgarth, he had 72lb 4oz – one of the biggest match-winning nets from the Ouse for many years.
Fellow Sensas Wibsey man Andy Miller claimed second with a superb silver fish net of 19lb 12oz made up of 70 roach at peg 287 at Linton.
After three straight wins Dave Cheetham had to settle for second place at Langwith Lakes, but even so he was still only a couple of fish behind winner Keith Hardy.
Hardy, at peg seven on Bethany’s Lake, netted 92lb of carp to 3lb while Cheetham’s same approach at Kevin’s peg 27 yielded 88lb 3oz.
Steve Jonnes took round two of the Raker Lakes Spring League with eight carp from peg 18.
Offering bread punch up the far shelf at 18 metres, his winning haul totalled 32lb 6oz.
Next was Trevor Scott, who put together a mixed net of roach and skimmers from peg seven.
The final round of the Bob-Co Winter Series at Carpvale went to Keith Larkin (JT Rogers).
Alternating meat and corn on the pole from peg four, he netted 15 carp for 43lb 12oz.
Well behind was Graham Broadley (Bob-Co), who took five carp on pole and meat from peg one for his 19lb 8oz.
In the final countdown the league title went to Steve Pearson (JT Rogers) with a 24-point total which narrowly saw off the challenge of Mick Green.
• Laybourne Lakes Brown’s and Potters’ Pools are closed to angling on Sunday, March 28, as a working party is doing general maintenance work.
Marley’s Pool will remain open.
