KEV KEANE topped the weights at the latest York & District Amalgamation of Anglers veterans match at Laybourne Lakes' Marley's pool.

Fishing the in under-70s section of the contest, Keane weighed in with 132lb 7oz, way ahead of runner-up Pauline Rookes' 81lb 4oz.

The over-70s winner was Keith Scholfield with a catch of 90lb, ahead of Barry Richardson's 48lb 4oz.

Pete Webster won the Shepherds Angling Club away day match on the River Calder at Birkwood Farm.

The water was clear, shallow and fast flowing and anglers needed a good arm to cast a waggler to the far bank at regular intervals.

Webster had an excellent catch of six chub, averaging 2lb, and dace for a total weight of 18lb 6oz caught on wagglered maggot cast across to an overhanging willow on the far bank.

Second was Matt Crowl with a catch of dace and grayling for 5lb 13oz, while third place went to Alan Moult, who had dozens of fish in his catch of 5lb 5oz. He used waggler fishing to the far bank in a foot of water.
