ROY GREGSON was the winner of the tenth Kingfisher Cup angling match.

The contest is fished annually by Yorvik Angling Club in memory of Gerald Leslie, a founder of the club.

Gregson was stationed at peg five at Tollerton and bagged mainly carp in the margins on meat for a total weight of 55lb 4oz.

He finished only two ounces ahead of Barry Long, at peg 17, who got his catch on the feeder fishing tight to the lily pads.

Pete Childs junior, fishing peg one on the pole with sweetcorn, came third but was unlucky to have lost a couple of carp which would have given him a clear victory.

Fourth place went to Gerald's son, Mark Leslie, at peg eight, fishing shallow on pellet.

Shepherd Angling Club had an away day to the River Don at Denaby and, with the river running at normal level and clear, the catches were good as all 11 members weighed in.

Skimmers made up the bulk of the catches, with small roach a close second and Ian Hardcastle made the most of the skimmers, fishing worm and feeder to catch 11lb 8oz.

Mel Graves was second with a mixed bag of skimmers, perch and roach, caught again on feeder but using maggot on the hook, for a haul of 10lb 8oz.
