YORK’S Tony Layfield took top honours at the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers’ Christmas Cheer match on the River Ouse.
Layfield caught three skimmers and some roach on worm and feeder from peg 25 at Palace Ings for a winning haul of 6lbs 15oz.
Second place went to Leeds angler Barbara Jeffreys, who caught a 3lb bream and six roach for her 4lbs 14oz net at peg 61 at Donkey Woods.
Tackle4U’s Craig Turbett was third from peg two at the Pumper with 4lbs 8oz, while Mick Doyle and Mick Wood were joint fourth with 3lbs 10oz.
The contest attracted a field of 52 anglers.
The amalgamation’s annual Animal Hospitals Cup will be fished on the Ouse below York on Sunday.
The draw will be made at St Clement’s WMC at 8.30am.
The next round of the York & District Winter League will be held on Sunday, December 8.
