DAVID CARR was a double winner at the York Amalgamation of Anglers’ committee match at Laybourne Lakes near York.

Carr won the main competition with a haul of 40lb 10oz from peg 39 on Marley Pool, and he also took the pairs prize in tandem with D Carrie with a total weight of 51lb 12oz.

Stu Morfitt was second in the individual contest with 32lb from peg 41, while Dave ‘Doc’ Findlay was third with 24lb 12oz from peg 37. John Collier was fourth with 16lb 12oz.

The amalgamation veterans’ match attracted 29 entries at Laybourne in midweek.

Pete Webster topped the under-70s field with 89lb 10oz from peg 46, finishing marginally ahead of Stu Haigh with 86lb 6oz. Mick Wood came third with 75lb and Alan Thompson was fourth with 69lb.

In the over-70s section, Barry Richardson took first place with a net of 72lb 8oz from peg 19, well ahead of George Todd with 39lb 10oz. Pete Lowson was third with 39lb and Geoff Marley claimed fourth with 35lb.

John Hughes won Yorvik Angling Club’s Gerald Leslie Kingfisher Cup on Coots at Tollerton Ponds.

An 18-strong field competed in the ninth annual match fished in memory of Gerald Leslie, who was a founder member of the club.

Hughes’ haul was 53lb 4oz, with Barry Long second with 46lb 1oz and Phil Blood third with a haul of 43lb 15oz. Gerald’s son, Mark, was fourth with 43lb 3oz.

Matt Crowl took the honours in the Shepherd Angling Club match at Laybourne Lakes’ Brown’s Pool.

Crowl topped the ten-man field with a mixed bag of silver fish plus a bonus 2lb carp caught on corn and pellet from peg 22, with a total weight of 22lb 2oz.

Second place went to Dave Findlay, who fished paste throughout the match and caught 20lb 8oz of silvers, mostly crucians, plus a 2lb 8oz tench, from peg 30.

Pete Mills was third with a mixed bag of silvers, caught on pellet from peg 26, weighing in at 14lb 6oz.

A match for junior anglers (under-18s) will be held at New Walk Terrace on Friday, July 19 as part of the Festival of the Rivers, sponsored by City of York Council.

The draw will be at 5pm with fishing from 6pm to 9pm.
