TONY STEPHENSON was a clear winner of the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers’ mid-summer match at Laybourne Lakes.

Stephenson weighed in with 92lb 2oz, ahead of Frank Harvey, with 76lb 2oz, and third-placed Rich Darling on 54lb 6oz. Andy Ventress was fourth with 52lb 4oz.

In the midweek amalgamation veterans’ contest, the under-70s section was won by Stan Haigh with 53lb 9oz, with Mick Wood second with a net of 46lb.

Keith Schofield won the over-70s match with 50lb 14oz, ahead of Barry Richardson, who scaled 42lb 6oz.

The First Sunday Open will take place on the the River Ouse above York on Sunday. The draw will be at St Clement’s WMC at 8.30am.

Another veterans’ match will be held at Laybourne on Wednesday. The draw will be at 1pm, with fishing from 2pm to 7pm.

The Junior Angling Championships will be held on the Ouse at New Walk next Friday, from 5pm.
