French recruit Jonathan Chabry made a sparkling debut for RI ‘D’ in division two of the Northern Powergrid York and District Table Tennis League.

He helped his side to a draw with Bootham ‘B’, team-mate Simon Prins playing his first game for three years and claiming the scalp of Ady McClaren in straight games.

Shepherds ‘A’ beat Shepherds ‘B’ 7-3, Dave Lamb the man in form, while RI ‘F’ were derailed by Tramways, 8-2, Mike Robinson too good.

RI ‘B’ thumped Shepherds ‘B’ 9-1 thanks to a fine performance from Jeff Cohen, who also starred in an 8-2 win over Bootham ‘D’ along with Tim Smith.

In division one, reigning champions Coneysthorpe ‘A’ dismissed Coneysthorpe ‘B’ 9-1, Martin Lowe and Tom Needham unbeaten.

RI ‘A’ overcame RI ‘B’ 8-2, Mick Wilcockson and Paul Robertson in good form.

In division three, Shepherds ‘D’ were grateful to maximum hauls from Paul Kozyra as they edged out RI ‘G’, while BT ‘A’ and RI ‘H’ played out a draw. Howard Lewis ensured a 7-3 success for Aviva ‘A’ over Holgate ‘D’.

In division four, David Atkinson and Nigel Baker were undefeated for Shepherds ‘E’ in an 8-2 win over Hartrigg Oaks, while Thornton-le-Clay whitewashed Bootham ‘G’.

RI ‘J’ also enjoyed a 10-0 win over RI ‘K’.
