Table Tennis: Pace-setters brought to heel by ‘B’ class stars

NORTHERN Power Grid York and District Table Tennis League division three leaders RI ‘F’ went down to their first defeat of the season to University ‘B’ for whom Adam Schober Thomson and Jay Wong starred.

Struggling Shepherds ‘D’ produced a big shock, registering their first win led by Nigel Baker to down Bootham ‘E’.

Division four leaders RI ‘J’ inflicted a merciless whitewash of Hartrigg Oaks, but they are being closely pursued by Thornton-le Clay who toppled Bootham ‘F’ 7- 3 with veteran Trevor Percival not dropping a game.

Tom Lines was in imperious form as he led Holgate ‘F’ to a 7-3 win over Aviva ‘B’.

Division one pace-setters Coneysthorpe ‘A’ whitewashed RI ‘C’.

There was a fine success for Crescent’s division two player John Eastwood, who produced one of the season’s shocks to beat Nathan Horsley 11-9 in the final game.

In division two, Mark Blackburn led RI ‘E’ to conquer Crescent ‘C’ 7-3, while Mike Robinson excelled in Tramways’ 8-2 eclipse of CE Electric.

Mike Cooper won all his singles and doubles for the first time this term in the 8- 2 win by Bootham ‘C’ over Holgate D.
