CONEYSTHORPE ‘A’, champions of division one of the CE Electric Table Tennis League, completed their season with a whitewash of RI ‘C’, writes John Temple.
Runners-up RI ‘A’ could muster only a two-man team for the trip to Crescent ‘B’ and crashed 7-3.
RI ‘B’ edged out a depleted Bootham ‘A’ team, while Gareth Bryning led relegated Bootham ‘B’ to an 8-2 win at a two-man Shepherds ‘A’.
In division two, Bootham ‘C’ confirmed their place as runners-up with an emphatic 9-1 win at Shepherds ‘C’, despite a straight sets win for Chris Hutchinson over Mike Cooper.
Richard Collyer pulled off a narrow win over John Freeman, but his relegated Bootham ‘D’ side went down by the same score to Crescent ‘C’, who snatch third, despite RI ‘D’ overcoming Holgate ‘D’, 8-2, and they had to settle for fourth.
The losers recovered to beat Bootham ‘D’ 7-3.
In division three, a two-man Aviva ‘B’ went down 7-3 to RI ‘G’.
Jamie Cameron guided RI ‘I’ to a narrow success over Holgate ‘F’ in division four.
Roll of honour Division one, champions: Coneysthorpe ‘A’; relegated: Bootham ‘B’; play-off: Bootham ‘C’ v RI ‘C’ (May 11).
Division two, champions: RI ‘E’; relegated: Bootham ‘D’; play-off: BT ‘A’ v Shepherds ‘C’ (May 9).
Division three, champions: CE Electric; relegated: Aviva ‘A’; play-off: to be arranged.
Division four, champions: University ‘B’.
