Sessions ‘A’ retained the leadership of division one of the NEDL York and District Table Tennis League with a whitewash of Holgate ‘A’, with the doubles the only set to go to a final game, writes John Temple.
Coneysthorpe ‘A’ kept up the chase in second with a 9-1 thumping of Coneysthorpe ‘B’.
Railway ‘A’ thumped University ‘A’ 8-2, with Paul Robertson unbeaten.
A two-man student side had earlier held Railway ‘B’ to a draw thanks to a fine display from Tim Ang.
Holgate ‘B’ dismissed Railway ‘B’ 9-1 thanks to Martin Hood and Alf Potter.
Shepherds ‘B’ are making a determined effort to avoid the drop from division two and they picked up three points, though losing to Sessions ‘B’, who had Nigel Thorn to thank.
They then won by the same score at NEDL/Bootham and thus closed the gap on Holgate ‘D’, who crashed 8-2 to Bootham ‘C’, with Mike Cooper and Dave Rawlings showing the way.
Sessions ‘B’ were held to a draw at BT ‘A’, though Terry Nicholson won his singles in tenacious style.
In division three, promotion-seeking Aviva ‘A’ were held to a draw by Shepherds ‘D’, though Ernest Omane-Kodie was in top form.
Leaders Shepherds ‘C’ were made to work for a 7-3 win over Shepherds ‘E’, with Mick Surtees seeing them through.
John Lloyd turned back the clock as the veteran, who is considering putting his bat away at the end of the season, led his side to a 7-3 win over University ‘B’.
Bill Carter guided a weakened BT ‘B’ side to a draw at Railway ‘D’.
Division four leaders Railway ‘F’ whitewashed Railway ‘G’, but found it tougher against Holgate ‘F’, Jake McCarthy helping them to prevail.
