THE top game of the week in the first division of the York and District Table Tennis League was a 5-5 draw between Coneysthorpe ‘B’ and second-placed York RI ‘A’, writes Dave Quinlan.

James Rule picked up a treble for Coneysthorpe and York RI needed an extremely tight doubles victory to salvage a draw.

Leaders Coneysthorpe ‘A’ took advantage with Martin Lowe and Ashley Hodgson on top form in an 8-2 defeat of University ‘A’. Holgate ‘A’ showed no mercy, with John Farmery and Aidan Ranftler unbeaten in a 9-1 thrashing of York RI ‘C’.

In division two, Holgate ‘B’ remain top after three wins from Martin Hood and Mick Kenyon in a 9-1 victory over Tramways, while Nathan Taylor and Andy Fletcher helped title rivals Shepherds ‘A’ to a 9-1 triumph over Bootham ‘B’.

Bootham ‘D’ remain above the relegation zone with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Holgate ‘C’ 6-4, Dave Quinlan contributing a treble.

The top of division three is unchanged. University ‘B’ thrashed Holgate ‘D’ 9-1 with Jack Kelly and Alex McCarthy unbeaten, while Bootham ‘E’ stayed in second place thanks to maximums from Jan Suchecki and Pete Corner in an 8-2 victory against Burnholme ‘A’.

BT ‘B’ shocked their ‘A’ team in a 7-3 victory, with Jim Stevenson undefeated. Burnholme ‘B’ still lead division four but were pushed hard by Trustmarque, only confirming their victory in the final doubles set. Terry Ruane contributed a treble for Burnholme.
