IT is early days in the York & District Table Tennis League season but there have already been some significant matches, writes John Farmery.

The top two teams from last season again lead the way in division one.

York RI’ ‘A’, who finished second last term, drew 5- 5 at home to Coneysthorpe ‘A’, who were champions.

York Closed champion Martin Lowe won his three singles matches for the visitors while Filip Wojtkowiak, and Paul Robertson won two each for the hosts. Both teams won their other matches comfortably and lead the way on 23 points.

Holgate WMC ‘A’, for whom Aidan Rantfler has won 11 from 12, and York RI ‘B’ are also on 23 points but both have played one more match.

In division two, the two teams promoted from division three met with Holgate WMC ‘C’, helped by a maximum three wins from Martin Hood, winning 7-3 at home to Shepherds ‘D’.

Shepherds ‘A’ and Bootham ‘C’ set the pace at the top with 24 and 23 points respectively, and have already played each other, Bootham ‘C’ winning 6-4 thanks to three wins from Rachael Greener.

Bootham ‘F’ head division three, having won three of their first four matches.

Their only loss came against last year’s division four champions, Thornton-le-Clay.

There were maximums from Trevor Percival and Neil Lynch for Thorntonle- Clay in their 7-3 triumph.

Burnholme ‘B’ have started their campaign with three wins from three matches, with Terry Ruane winning eight out of nine so far.

One of those wins was 7-3 away to secondplaced Holgate WMC ‘E’.
