YORK RI ‘F’ may be doomed to relegation to division three of the York and District Table Tennis League, but Lewis McCarthy claimed the scalp of Dave Simpson as Shepherds ‘B’ won 8-2.

Bootham ‘D’ look set to join them in the third tier after a 9-1 thrashing at the hands of Bootham ‘B’, though they lost three of the sets by the minimum margin.

Ady McClaren was in fine form and Gareth Bryning was also unbeaten, and they went on to beat Shepherds ‘A’ 6-4. Andy Kirk helped the losers bounce back as they forced a draw with RI ‘E’, beating Mark Blackburn 11-4, 11-9, 11-5. Bootham ‘C’ edged out Shepherds ‘C’, though the losers’ John Flintoft was the top player.

In division three, Aviva ‘A’ helped their survival chances with a 7-3 win at RI ‘G’, with Mich Slezak undefeated.

The losers responded with a narrow win at Bootham F, youngster Matty Roberts overcoming veteran Ray Mitchell 11-9 in the final game.

Thornton-le Clay are division four champions-elect. They needed only two players, Trevor Percival and Neil Lynch, to dispose of Holgate E 7-3, and aided by Rod Lowery then dismissed RI J 10-0.
