Coneysthorpe ‘A’ came out on top in the clash between first and second in the Northern Powergrid York and District Table Tennis League division one encounter.

The reigning champions beat RI ‘A’ 8-2, Martin Lowe and Ashley Hodgson only dropping two games as they won all their singles and were partners in a doubles success, Lowe again unbeaten in a 7-3 win over University ‘A’.

Jon Wooldridge guided Bootham ‘A’ to a draw with Coneysthorpe ‘B’, who were narrowly beaten by a Mick Wilcockson-inspired RI ‘A’, though Chris Londesborough claimed two wins, including a victory over Paul Robertson.

Aiden Raftner was the key man as Holgate ‘A’ edged out Bootham ‘A’.

In division two, RI ‘C’ continued their winning start to the season with a narrow win over RI ‘D’, though they found Jonathan Chabry a formidable opponent, the leaders unable to dent the Frenchman’s unbeaten record.

John Flintoft has also made a fine start to the campaign, and the veteran continued his good form, helping Shepherds ‘C’ to a draw at Bootham ‘B’.

Bootham ‘D’ surged up the table as they whitewashed RI ‘F’ but lost a marathon match to RI ‘D’ 7-3, not finishing until 20 minutes to midnight.

RI ‘E’ overcame Bootham ‘C’ 7-3, Mark Blackburn in good form. Tramways narrowly overcame Shepherds ‘B’.

Division three leaders Shepherds ‘D’ had to fight hard for a 7-3 win over Bootham ‘F’, Mick Surtees driving his side to victory.

Bootham ‘E’ thumped Holgate ‘D’ 8-2, Matt Ayres in determined mood, but were depleted as they were then whitewashed by University ‘B’, who, in turn, found RI ‘G’ too good, Richard Morris unbeaten in an 8-2 win.

Undefeated last year, Thornton-le-Clay’s Trevor Percival tasted his first defeat of this campaign in division four at the hands of Shepherd ‘E’s Nigel Baker, though the village outfit won all the remaining games thanks to fine displays from Rod Lowery and Neil Lynch, while the losers whitewashed a depleted Trustmarque, and Hartrigg Oaks also had a man advantage as they overcame Aviva ‘B’ 7-3.

John Stokes helped RI ‘I’ to an 8-2 win over Bootham ‘G’.
