NORTH Yorkshire’s Joanne Jackson hailed a “great day for British swimming” after she claimed bronze in the 400 metres freestyle at the Beijing Olympics.
The 21-year-old came third behind GB team-mate Rebecca Adlington, who became the first British woman to win Olympic swimming gold for 48 years.
Northallerton-born Jackson, who also qualified for today’s 200m final, said: “For two British girls to get on the podium is amazing and I am so happy. It’s great for British swimming.”
