YORK City Baths Club's James Wilby finished sixth in his semi-final of the 200 metres breaststroke at the British Gas Swimming Championships in Sheffield.
The 19-year-old clocked a personal best of two minutes 15.72 seconds in the faster of the two semi-final heats and his overall ranking of ninth meant he missed out on tomorrow's final by one place.
Strensall-based Wilby, who bagged a personal best in the 50m breaststroke on the opening day of the competition at Ponds Forge, was earlier timed at two minutes 17.43 to be ranked 12th after the initial heats.
On Saturday morning, Wilby will compete in the heats of the 100m breaststroke aiming to make the evening semi-finals. The final is on Sunday night.
