Wigginton are gunning for a return to the Yorkshire Squash League premier division after a four-year absence.
The IT Sports-sponsored side lead the way in division one, holding a 29-point advantage over Ferriby Hall with only five games to play.
Wiggy, three-time premier division champions, will be looking to strengthen their hold on top spot when they host fifth-placed Huddersfield on Wednesday, March 7.
Having lost only one of their opening 13 games, Wigginton have lost their last two fixtures.
After a 17-6 defeat at Abbeydale, Wigginton went down 15-10 at home to Hull-based Ferriby Hall.
Wigginton’s Ray Burke was edged out in a five-set thriller by Ferriby’s Paul Norton.
Manager Ian Tooms proved too strong for Ferriby’s Iain Taylor, winning 3-0 and captain Jonny Duffield then put the leaders ahead by overcoming Andy Stott 3-1.
Youngster Tom Pepper was involved in a five-set encounter, losing 16-14 in the decider to Nick Padgett.
With the match poised at 2-2, Wigginton’s Simon Myring lost 3-0 to Mike Stead to allow Ferriby to close the gap.
