YORK Squash Club’s Nicky Horn has been crowned a national champion.
Horn triumphed in the Ladies Over-45 title at the national squash championships in Manchester.
While the world’s two best male players – eventual title winner Nick Matthew and Yorkshireman Jamie Willstrop – battled it out on a neighbouring court, number one seed Horn, pictured near right in point- winning action, toppled Mandy Akin of Kent in the final 3-0 (9-0, 9-7, 9-7).
Horn’s success followed on from her triumph in the North of England Masters, which she won in September.
