IT SPORTS Wigginton moved into the top half of the Yorkshire Squash League premier division with a 4-1 win at Phoenix Huddersfield.

The York side bounced back from the previous week’s defeat to league leaders Queens with a superb team performance.

Recalled at number five, Jon Duffield, pictured left, got the visitors off to a flying start, coming out on top 3-2 after an hour-long tussle with Dave Allen.

Number four Ed Shannon also won 3-2 in a marathon match-up with Phil Bowker.

John Harris, playing at number two, lost 3-1 to Danny Massard, but reigning York champion Chris Rusling wrapped up the win by beating Dan Turner 3-2 thanks to a 14-12 success in the fifth.

Wigginton pro Pete Bilson toppled Aqeel Rehman 3-1 to seal an 18-10 triumph.

Manager Ian Tooms was “overjoyed” with the victory and hailed his side’s “fantastic travelling support”.
