Fulford ‘B’ finally triumphed after recent defeats at the last stage of the York Conservative Clubs’ Kutters & Shannon Team Snooker Cup when they defeated Heworth ‘B’ 5-2 in a final which either team could have won.

Andy Warringer (+7 h/cap) made a 26 break to come from 31 points behind then finish with blue and pink to give Fulford a head start by beating Roland Cox (7) 64-49.

Fulford captain Nigel Smith (+18) was too good for Mark Calpin (+6) and made it 2-0 with a 62-26 win.

Heworth captain Chris Thompson (+11) had a shaky start but held his nerve as John Adcock (+12) picked up his game. Thompson claimed blue and pink to win 68-46 and reduce the arrears.

Arther Pegden (+9) controlled the fourth frame and made it 3-1 as he kept Brian Birch (+14) out of the game before winning 74-38.

Darren Colledge (0) kept up his usual positive approach to defeat Bob Smith (+16) 64-30 and make it 3-2.

Andy Hurley (+8) looked to be in trouble as Andy Ireland (+7) went 23 points ahead but he fought back to trail by just six points when he sunk the brown. However, Ireland fluked the blue and needed only one ball to level the match while, on the other table, Vic Gamble (+9) was leading Jim Rollinson (+5) and a Heworth turnaround looked possible.

Ireland had several near misses on the pink before Hurley got a chance. He potted the pink and got position for a fine cut on the black to win the frame 68-66 and the match. It was a comeback and finish that earned him the Eric Darley Memorial Cup for the most valuable player in the final.

At the same time Rollinson, on the other table, fluked the brown and added blue and pink to defeat Gamble 51-37 and make the scoreline 5-2 for Fulford.

The trophy and awards were presented by the sponsor Roy Walker of Kutters & Shannon.
