Snooker: Malton turn the tables as Heworth woe rises

Malton ‘A’ exchanged places with Heworth ‘A’ again and this time opened up a three-point advantage at the top of the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League by defeating them 6-1.

It was Heworth’s fourth defeat in a row.

Dominic Spiteri, Darren Pawson and Andrew Sherry made it 3-0 before Neil Wood gained Heworth’s sole point.

Roger Ward, Lee Taylor (68 break) and Simon Weatherill, who recovered from being 47 behind with only three reds left to beat Jason Milner, completed the scoreline.

Acomb ‘A’ went joint second with Heworth ‘A’ after a 5-2 victory over Bootham ‘A’.

Mark Darley needed the last three colours to win for Bootham but captain Gary Robinson levelled for Acomb.

Rob Barron fluked the pink and sunk the black to put Bootham ahead.

Andy Wade, Keith Thornhill, Paul Holmes and Adrian Barraclough, who also needed pink and black after Barry Rankin had failed on a frame-winning pink, wrapped up the match.

Acomb ‘B’ held on to fourth place despite going down 5-2 to Bootham ‘B’.

Kevan Ventress levelled for Acomb after Matt Smith had won the first game.

Chris Dawson, Paul Scorfield, Paul Mahoney and Jeff Brown (32 bk) secured the match before Steve Rodgers gained Acomb’s second point.

Fulford ‘A’ made it four wins in five matches with a 6-1 trouncing of their ‘B’ team, who were fresh from defeating Heworth ‘A’ 5-2 in the Kutters Shannon Team Cup KO.

The ‘A’ team went 6-0 up through Tom Wilson, Tim Lister, James Lee (32 bk), Alan Reed, Mike Walsh (36 bk) and Simon England. Nigel Smith gained the ‘B’ team’s point in the last frame which prevented a whitewash.

Malton’s Lee Taylor consolidated his lead place in the Pasema Paving highest break competition with a 68 break. Mike Walsh (Fulford) continues in second spot with his 43 break.

With nine wins in 11 games, Acomb’s Paul Holmes moved into the lead in the Cameo Engraving player of the year contest. Lee Taylor and Simon Weatherill, both of Malton, are joint second.
