Malton ‘A’ moved to the top of the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 5-2 victory over Bootham ‘B’.

The champions of 2009 were helped by two black-ball results.

Dominic Spiteri gave them a start and Simon Weatherill scraped home when Ray Stamp went in off the final black. Paul Mahoney and Matt Smith had comfortable wins to level, but Romain Reeves restored Malton’s lead when taking victory against Lional Barnes following a re-spotted black.

Lee Taylor started with a 20 break and added 22 to secure his match before Phil Hart made it 5-2.

Fulford ‘A’ moved off the bottom spot with a 4-3 victory over Heworth ‘A’, despite fielding a makeshift team.

Adam Scaife and Neil Wood (35 bk) put Heworth two up but James Lee (24 bk), Simon England and Luke Fleet moved Fulford ahead.

Steve Burdett levelled and then Alan Reed defeated Clive Whyte to give Fulford a surprising win.

Acomb ‘B’ had a second 4-3 victory over their ‘A’ team to remain in third place.

Kevan Ventress, Brian Henry and John Ashwell made it 3-0 before Andy Wade replied for the ‘A’ team. Andy Stone secured the match before Phil Carlton and Adrian Barraclough made it 4-3 which kept the ‘A’ team in fifth place.

Fulford ‘B’ moved up two places to sixth as a result of beating fourth-placed Heworth ‘B’ 4-3. Vic Gamble and Darren Colledge (31 bk) put Heworth ahead but John Adcock, Jim Rollinson and Andy Warriner gave Fulford the lead.

Chris Thompson levelled but Nigel Smith took the last frame to earn Fulford ‘B’ a 4-3 success.

Despite both Kevin Gall and Paul Holmes losing this week they continue to lead in the Willsden Steel player of the year competition but are joined by Malton’s Lee Taylor and Simon Weatherill – all with seven wins in nine games.

Taylor continues to lead in the Pasema Paving highest break contest with a 44 break.

Mike Walsh (Fulford) is second with 43 with Tim Fillingham (Bootham) third with 42.
