HEWORTH ‘A’ increased their lead to three points in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League helped by black-ball games in their 5-2 victory over their ‘B’ team.
Huw Faircliffe gave the ‘B’ team a start only for Adam Scaife to level with a fluked black.
Mark Calpin restored the lead then Kevin Gall (33 break), Jason Milner (32 bk and black ball win), Clive Whyte (35 and 27 clearance for a black ball win) and Neil Wood (28 bk) completed the victory.
Malton ‘A’ held on to second spot despite losing 4-3 to Acomb ‘A’. Paul Homes (28 bk) and Andy Wade against a reply by Andrew Sherry gave Acomb a lead but Lee Taylor (31, 44 bks) and Roger Ward (25 bk) moved Malton ahead. Keith Thornhill held off Dave Coulthard (34 bk) and Adrian Barraclough made it 4-3 for Acomb.
Acomb ‘B’ moved to the dizzy heights of third place after whitewashing Bootham ‘A’, their first such defeat since the 2005-6 season.
The winning team was Kevan Ventress, Keith Myers, John Ashwell, Ian Gillies, Ken Bowser, Andy Stone and Steve Rodgers (20 bk). Bootham ‘A’ dropped four places to seventh.
Fulford ‘A’ recorded their first win of the season with a close 4-3 defeat of Bootham ‘B’.
Bootham’s Matt Smith won the first game then Luke Fleet, Peter Stroughair and Geoff Robinson put Fulford ahead.
Paul Mahoney and Chris Dawson levelled but Tim Lister (33, 30 bks) won the match for bottom-placed Fulford.
