Heworth’s Gary Rogers wins Billiards Knockout

Heworth’s Gary Rogers has won his second York Conservative Clubs’ Hair Flicks Hylton Foster Billiards Knockout.

Rogers beat Tim Fillingham, of Bootham, 165-138 in the final at Acomb Conservative Club.

In the semi-finals, Rogers ousted Fulford’s Tim Lister, the defending champion, 165-74, while Richard Stroughair lost to Fillingham.

Meanwhile, Fulford increased their lead to three points in the York Conservative Clubs’ Billiards League, beating Heworth 4-3.

Wayne Puleston came from 60 behind to beat Brian Birch 150-127.

Rogers levelled with breaks of 82, 48 and 46, overcoming Terry Ward (30) by 126 points.

Lister moved Fulford ahead only for Steve Burdett (32) to level. Stroughair (44, 38, 33) and Alan Reed made it 4-2 for Fulford, but Rogers’ win sealed the aggregate.

Bootham ‘B’ won 5-2 against their ‘A’ team, with victories by Chris Grainger, Ian Robinson, Tony Lambert and Tim Fillingham against replies by Don Pringle and Barry Rankin.

They then went down 5-2 to Acomb. Gary Robinson, Trevor Ventress, Ian Gillies and Adrian Barraclough ensured Acomb took the aggregate by 17 points.
