Heworth ‘A’ increased their lead to eight points in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League after a 4-3 victory over bottom club Bootham ‘A’.
Adam Scaife won the first game for Heworth and Tim Hart made it 2-0 by coming back from 30 behind with the help of a snooker to beat John Darley on the black.
Chris Dower (28 break) reduced the arrears with a controlled win over Mark Winskill (21), and Simon Robinson levelled. Neil Wood (35) made it 3-2 with a pink ball success against Colin Robinson.
Then Clive Whyte (28) sealed the win before Barry Rankin won for Bootham.
Fulford ‘B’ moved into second place despite losing 4-3 to Acomb ‘B’. Fulford’s Bob Smith won the first frame, then Brian Henry, Kevan Ventress, John Ashwell and Steve Rogers won the match.
Tom Wilson and John Adcock reduced the arrears to 4-3.
Malton ‘A’ won their rearranged match with Fulford ‘A’ 4-3.
Simon Weatherill opened with the season’s highest break of 92 and Nick Dyson (36) put Malton 2-0 ahead. Mike Walsh (26, 30) and Jeff Brown levelled, but Roger Ward (31) and Craig Mead settled the match before Tim Lister (34) made it 4-3.
Acomb ‘A’ moved into third place despite a shock 5-2 defeat by Bootham ‘B’. George Long, Chris Dawson, Matt Smith, Lionel Barnes and Paul Scorfield won for Bootham, with replies from Richard Lillie and Adrian Barraclough.
Bootham extended their lead to four points with a 4-3 victory over Acomb in the Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League, but only by the aggregate point. A 61-32 win by Norman Shipley and Pete Mattinson levelled and gave Bootham an aggregate lead for the first time. Acomb went 3-2 ahead, but Ken Carling and John Sykes won the last 63-35 for Bootham.
Heworth pushed Fulford into bottom spot with a 6-1 win.
VIC Gamble went one step further than his runner-up place in last year’s competition by beating Malton’s Richard Williamson in the final of the Brian Jeffrey Memorial Over-50s Snooker KO at Acomb.
He became only the third Heworth player in 16 years to win an over-50s event but the result was finally decided by two flukes. In the semi-final Gamble (+6) defeated Jeff Brown (B) (scratch).
Williamson beat Jeff Keen (A) (+25) in the other semi-final.
