Heworth ‘A’ had their lead reduced to two points as a result of a surprise home 4-3 defeat by Acomb ‘A’ in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League.
They went 3-1 ahead through wins by Adam Scaife, Mark Winskill (27 bk) and Neil Wood (36, 37 bks) against a reply by Mark Harrison.
Acomb responded and Trevor Ventress and Phil Carlton levelled before Adrian Barraclough (30 bk) beat Clive Whyte in the final frame.
Fulford ‘B’ held on to second spot with a 4-3 victory over bottom placed Bootham ‘A’. They went 2-1 down as Brendan Ledgeway and Tim Fillingham won for Bootham and Ray Thackway replied.
Arther Pegden levelled and Jim Rollinson moved Fulford ahead.
Colin Robinson was 20 ahead of Andy Hurley, who cleared the colours but went in off the final black.
Barry Rankin fought back from 50 behind but Tom Wilson took the final black to seal the win.
After three consecutive defeats Bootham returned to winning ways in the Slater Cup Snooker pairs League with a 5-2 success against defending champions Fulford.
In a high scoring game Fulford won the first frame on the black then finished on pink and black to go 2-0 up.
Bootham then took the remaining four games for an aggregate 5-2 win.
Heworth surprised second placed Acomb with a 4-3 victory by way of the aggregate.
Acomb won the first two frames on the black but Heworth levelled.
D Chapman and T Carlton moved Acomb ahead only for John Sherlock and Colin Richardson to level again and ensure Heworth the aggregate.
Fulford replaced Heworth as leaders of the Faber Shield Billiards League after beating Bootham ‘B’ 4-3.
Paul Mahoney (21 bk) and Alf Appleby put Bootham 2-0 up before Terry Ward (27, 38 bks) clawed one back.
Chris Granger moved Bootham 3-1 ahead then Richard Stroughair (62, 32, 26 bks) beat Tim Fillingham (27 bk) and Bob Plant (28 bk) levelled.
Fulford gained the aggregate by just three points.
Heworth’s match against Acomb took the same pattern with Heworth going 3-1 up through Gary Rogers (63, 33 bks), Mark Winskill and Brian Birch against Gary Robinson’s reply.
Ian Gillies made it 3-2 and finally Adrian Barraclough overturned an aggregate deficit of 27 points to win the match 4-3 for Acomb.
