Heworth ‘A’ ensured Malton ‘A’ did not win consecutive matches in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK snooker league for the first time this season by recording a 5-2 victory which moved them three points clear as leaders.
Simon Weatherill won the first game for Malton, then Neil Wood (46 bk), Mark Winskill (40, 36), Jason Milner (36, 29), Kevan Gall and Steve Burdett sealed the win.
Tim Foggin held on to beat Clive Whyte (31 bk) to gain the second point for the defending champions.
Fulford ‘A’ held on to second spot despite going down 4-3 to their ‘B’ team. Bob Smith and Tom Wilson (30 bk), who beat Richard Stroughair (30 bk), put the ‘B’ team ahead only for the unbeaten Tim Lister to claw one back.
However, Ray Thackway and Jim Rollinson won the match before James Lee and Jeff Brown made it 4-3.
Bootham ‘A’ looked to be on the way to their first victory as Mark Darley (black ball) and Tim Fillingham (22 bk) made it 2-0 against Acomb ‘A’ and Simon Robinson looked to be in control in the third frame.
However, Trevor Ventress rallied and stole the game with a fine cut on the black.
Andy Wade levelled but Brendan Ledgeway (31 bk) inflicted the first defeat on Gary Robinson to make it 3-2.
Adrian Barraclough (27 bk) levelled again in a close game with Barry Rankin and Phil Carlton (24 bk) wrapping up the win for Acomb, who are four points adrift of the leaders, in fourth place.
Bootham ‘B’ recorded their first 6-1 success by thrashing Acomb ‘B’.
Chris Dawson gave them a start only for Brian Henry to level.
Paul Mahoney, Ian Robinson, Paul Scorfield (black ball), Lional Barnes and George Long, who finished with a powerful black ball shot along the cushion, earned the victory.
Heworth recorded their fourth 6-1 victory in seven matches in the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League when they met Bootham ‘B’.
The winning team comprised: Gary Rogers (51, 41, 30 bks), Brian Birch, Mark Winskill (27, 39), Vic Gamble (20+) who inflicted the first defeat on Tim Fillingham (27 bk) and Jason Milner (29, 34).
Tony Lambert defeated Steve Burdett (21) to earn Bootham’s sole point. Heworth moved one point clear as league leaders.
Fulford maintained the pressure on Heworth with a 5-2 success against Bootham ‘A’.
They went 3-0 ahead as Wayne Puleston beat Colin Robinson by one point, Tim Lister (21, 24) and Richard Stroughair (24, 34, 50) won.
John Darley and John Woodall reduced the arrears but Tom Wilson secured Fulford’s success.
Bootham slumped to their third consecutive defeat in the York Conservative Club’s Slater Cup snooker pairs league as Fulford triumphed 5-2.
However, their three early wins in the season kept them in top spot but with only a one point lead.
Fulford went 3-0 ahead before Bootham clawed one back only for Mark Taylor and Simon Chamberlain to seal the win in the next game.
Norman Shipley and Pete Mattinson earned the point in the last frame which kept Bootham on top of the league.
Heworth’s hopes of advancing their position came unstuck as Acomb recorded a 6-1 victory which kept them in second place and pushed Heworth into bottom spot.
