Heworth’s Clive Whyte won his second York Conservative Clubs’ Les Hawkins Memorial Trophy when he defeated Bootham’s Brendan Ledgeway in the final.

Ledgeway, receiving 23 points in the single-frame handicap event, built up a 44-11 lead in the final at Bootham Conservative Club.

But Whyte compiled a 29 break to trail 40-44, and he went on to win 67-55.

In the semi-final, Whyte defeated Fulford’s defending champion Tim Lister – receiving 14 points – on the black.

In the second semi-final, Ledgeway (+11) beat Acomb’s Gary Robinson (+2).

Meanwhile, Heworth ‘A’ opened up a five point lead at the top of the Carlsberg UK Snooker League after a 5-2 victory over Acomb ‘B’.

Brian Henry won the first frame for Acomb then Mark Winskill (23 break), Adam Scaife (41) and Steve Burdett (32) moved Heworth ahead.

John Ashwell clawed one back with a surprise success against Neil Wood, but Kevan Gall and Clive Whyte (25) ensured Heworth’s win.

Heworth ‘B’ held on to second despite losing 5-2 to Fulford ‘A’.

The teams shared the first four games with Brian Birch (25) and Darren Colledge winning for Heworth, and Lister and new recruit Kevin Hopper (27, 31) for Fulford. James Lee, Jeff Brown and Mike Walsh (20) took the remaining frames for Fulford.

Malton ‘A’ suffered their fourth defeat in six games to Fulford ‘B’.

Nick Dyson and Simon Weatherill gained Malton’s points, but Nigel Smith, Jim Rollinson, Andy Hurley, John Adcock and Tom Wilson made it 5-2 for Fulford.

Bootham ‘B’ went 4-0 ahead against their ‘A’ team. Lionel Barnes, Ian Robinson, Matt Smith and Paul Mahoney secured the win before Simon Robinson hit back. Scorfield (36) made it five for the ‘B’ team then John Darley earned the ‘A’ team’s second point.

Bootham looked certain to maintain their unbeaten run in the Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League as they went 3-0 in front with a 34 point aggregate advantage.

Acomb levelled at 3-3 and gained the aggregate point for a 4-3 win.

Heworth won the first three frames against Fulford and built a 31-point lead in the total scores.

Fulford won the next two and levelled the scores but Heworth took the final game to win 5-2.

Bootham ‘B’ still top the Faber Shield Billiards League despite having a free week. However, Fulford’s 4-3 victory over Heworth means the top three are level on 19 points.

Wayne Pulleston and Terry Ward gave Fulford a head start, but Gary Rogers (63, 51 unfin) pulled one back. Richard Stroughair (36, 38) made it 3-1, only for Steve Burdett (28 x 2) and Jason Milner (20) to level. Fulford earned the win by the aggregate point.

Acomb were beaten 5-2 by Bootham ‘A’.
