Fulford ‘A’ needed the final black against Bootham ‘B’ to earn a 4-3 win which took them to the top of the York Conservative Club’s Carlsberg UK Snooker League.
They went 3-0 ahead through Richard Stroughair, Tom Wilson and Mike Walsh only for Paul Scorfield, Ian Robinson and Matt Smith to level. Tim Lister was Fulford’s saviour with the black-ball victory over Paul Mahoney.
Heworth ‘A’ jumped five places to join Fulford ‘A’ as joint leaders with a 5-2 defeat of their ‘B’ team who also share the top spot with all three teams having 12 points and two wins.
Neil Wood triggered the ‘A’ team’s success with a 21 break followed by a four-red 57 clearance. Brian Birch levelled but Adam Scaife and Jason Milner moved the ‘A’ team ahead. Darren Colledge (23bk) clawed one back only for Kevan Gall and Clive Whyte (41bk) to sea the win.
Acomb ‘A’ travelled to Malton ‘A’ with some trepidation having suffered two 6-1 defeats last season.
However they ran out 4-3 victors although it could easily have been 6-1 against the defending champions.
Richard Lillie took the first game only for Malton’s captain Dave Coulthard to level.
Andy Wade restored Acomb’s lead by defeating Simon Weatherill, last season’s player of the year and winner of the highest break award with a 112bk. Phil Hart levelled again after Ian Gillies had a chance on the pink.
Then Gary Robinson and Trevor Ventress won the match before Richard Williamson, after fluking the last red, made a 22 break to make the score 4-3 for Acomb.
Acomb ‘A’ moved up one place to joint fourth along with Malton ‘A’ and Acomb ‘B’.
Acomb ‘B’ went 5-0 ahead with successes by Kevan Ventress, John Ashwell, Brian Henry (black ball result), Eric Leatt (black ball result) and Andy Stone. John Darley reduced the arrears but captain Steve Rodgers completed the rout with a pink ball victory.
After three sets of fixtures only six players have 100 per cent records: D Colledge (H), R Lillie (A), T Lister (F), G Robinson (A), C Whyte (H), N Wood (H).
They lead the way in Willsden Steel “Player of the Year” contest.
The early leaders in the North Wolds Printers “Highest Break” Competition are N Wood (H) 57 unfinished, S Weatherill (M) 52, C Whyte (H) 48, 41.
